Sophia is tired of being home-schooled and her family's overprotective ways. She wants to be free. This freedom comes in the package of suddenly developing incredible powers and being sent to a school for the supernatural. Coral is tired of always being overlooked. She has always wanted to be able to apprentice someone, but she has always been deemed: "unready." That is until Sophia shows up and Coral can finally prove that she can handle the responsibility. Clarisse is tired of living in a women's shelter. She wants her mother and herself to have a home again and not worry about her father. One night during a dip in a lake, Clarisse is transformed into a mermaid. Now she must join the Academy, but how can she leave her mother behind? Sirenity is tired of being practically a slave to her advisor. For years she had to put up with insults and ridiculous orders, but now, no more.
