Carl isn't thrilled when Daryl and Michonne bring home a strange boy they'd found alone in a candy store, but then again, he's not sure he remembers what happiness even feels like anymore. Not while his dad keeps trying to shape him into someone he's not.
Is it even possible to be two things at once? A farmer and a survivor? A boy who kills other boys, and kisses them? He doesn't know. He's not even sure he wants to find out.
Turns out, the stray kid is as antisocial as Carl, with a sweet tooth to match, and after being taken care of by kind people in an unkind world, they'll fall in love with each other and then, eventually, their mutual best friend, too.
Predominantly based on the TV series, with select elements from the comics. Later arcs include Dead City & The Ones Who Live (second to last chapter), with lore from the Daryl Dixon spinoff, Fear, Tales, and World Beyond where relevant.
