Sam is one of the many of her kind. A strong, powerful, werecat. The youngest of four kids, Sam was not born the same as her siblings. She has had to grow into her power as a werecat. After a fire devastated her family, Sam was forced to go on and rebuild herself while finding  hope in a new family.  The town of Caliber, California has a way of bringing up the past and challenging the Pierce clan.

Concerned he catches a plane. Alex's emotional state deteriorates. Her need for blood increases to the point of being dangerous. She meets a werecat with answers, but not the ones she wants. She finds some answers but they lead to more questions. Alex's were-hybrid heritage has finally caught up to her. There is no guarantee that she will survive what she considers Fates joke. The transformation turned out to be a long painful process. Her were-heritage demands that she claims Beth as her own. She is almost powerless to stop it or to make her own choice. Beth however has no choice but to complete the mating and be turned. It is that or die. When she nearly dies in the grip of the transformation Alex curses Fate and demands things be put right. The Fates intervene but they ask a price be paid.
