Where he confined himself to ruling from the shadows, just like his father. That was the year where winter did not leave. The winds grew stronger, bringing more and more bitter cold air with them. The kingdom grew weak. There was little food and the people were starting to lose hope. Then, one day a letter arrived at every home in the kingdom: there was to be a ball held at the palace. Everyone was invited, and everyone went. The time spent in the palace was grand. That was until one of the guests went missing. A young woman was escorted from the ballroom and was never seen again. Spring returned for a short time, and then winter crashed back down upon the land. And another ball was held. People were skeptical and did not want to attend, but they had no choice. Yet another guest went missing, another woman. The parties continued annually. Everyone in the kingdom was forced to go and every year, another person was escorted away. Most years it was a woman, one year it was a man. It has been six years since the beginning and winter is coming, after yet another short spring. It is time for another masquerade.
Project: Bastille Day 2016
Bastille Day commemorates the freedom of the French citizens' rights, and the beginning of the French Revolution on July 14, 1789. It was a couple of days after the creation of the National Constituent Assembly by the Third Estate (the common people and lower clergy) and the dismissal and banishment of Jacques Necker, King Louis XIV's financial minister who supported the Third Estate. Outraged by Necker's mistreatment, as well as the pent up feelings of tax raises and food shortages, the citizens rebelled. They gathered stocked up on raided ammunition, food, and wine, as well as started mobs against the king; even the king's troops did not stop them. On July 14 itself, the citizens stormed into the Hôtel des Invalides and took over 20,000 muskets, but there was no gunpowder. This urged them towards the fortress; at the same time, negotiations for Bastille's surrender were underway. The crowd, however, eventually grew impatient to the extent of gathering a small party to climb over the walls and lower the drawbridge from the inside. Eventually, Bastille was captured and dismantled by the citizens a few days later, and the National Assembly gained more supporters including a significant portion of defected royal guards and the French Guards. King Louis XIV saw this as a revolution rather than a revolt, and headed back to Paris and Hôtel de Ville on the 17th of July and takes a tricolour cockade (the new flag of red, white and blue) presented to him, what follows are cries of "Long live the king. Long live the nation." In place of Bastille is a square commemorating the event known as Place de la Bastille, which is still present to this day.Complete

(っ◔◡◔)っ ♥ Context that no one reads♥ The five Arthurian Romances by Chrétien de Troyes is all about romance defying social construct. A chivalry, courageous and honourable type, conveying courtly love and national unity. I had only found out about this poetry book very late but coincidentally it complimented the story brilliantly, so I have featured it in this piece. I decided to name this book after all five novels, calling this the 6th Arthurian Romances, as it is also set in that time. Essentially, it is about love between two different classes. As you know they took King's bloodlines very seriously as well as the hierarchy in the 12th century. But what if this king, like the Knight of Lion and the Knight of Cart, followed their hearts rather than society? Because he's committed to another, Caesar (16) is unable to return Theodore's affection. The two become friends, but Theodore's desire torments him, adding to the pain of Caesar's departure to war and the death of Theodore's aunt. Seeking escape from grief and hard work, Theodore takes part in a pagan celebration and lets traveling merchant, Jack (26) seduce him. Theodore loses control and hurts Jack during sex, bitterly regretting it. Jack disappears, leaving a scar on Theodore's heart.Complete
The Lost Life of Laraine
She lead a rather tragic life. The black sheep of her family due to her lack of affinity for fire. Her affinity was quite the opposite. Water in fact. Already in a time when women did not really have much political power or rights, she was outcasted by her family despite being of nobility. Still allowed to live in the distant west wing of the massive Grand Duke's manor, she has never eaten a single meal with her family nor extended family, and has spent her loneliness in her books and sword lessons. Although only taught by the head butler and one of the low ranked knights of the family, she was quite bright and if her family would have given her a chance she would have done great things. If only she didn't die at such a young age. Married off to some "hero" of sort that had slayed the Dragon of the North who was terrorizing the land and threatened the kingdom, this hero also had an affinity for fire and held her in disdain like the rest of her family. Suddenly a girl of another world was transported to their world, picked up by this hero and put into his secure care. The pair soon fell for each other despite the hero's marriage, and many believed Laraine got jealous of this girl of mystery, and tried to kill her. This was definitely not true. But because the girl was favored by the temple and kingdom Laraine was quickly arrested and put on trial. You can probably tell what happened to Laraine. But something strange happened the day of her execution. As soon as her decapitated head hit the ground the sky turned blood red and it began to rain fire. No one survived that day. But for some reason time went back, and Laraine was back to being a child, but with no memory of her future. There were select few in her life, however, that remembered her tragedy and now perhaps will take action to prevent it. NOTE: I'M AWARE THERE ARE A LOT OF INCONSISTENCIES. IT WILL BE EDITED SOME DAY BUT RIGHT NOW I'M JUST TRYING TO FINISH IT.
