Eliana Gilbert, Elena's fraternal twin, always felt different. Close to Elena, Jeremy, and their parents, Eliana had a natural affinity for nature, crystals, witches, and folklore. When Elena became pregnant by Ethan Rogers, Eliana was her rock, supporting her when Ethan left town. Elena gave birth to Nina Amelia Gilbert, and Eliana helped her every step of the way.

On May 23, 2009, their parents died in a car accident on Wickery Bridge. Though Elena and Eliana survived, Eliana's heart stopped for 10 minutes before miraculously restarting with no lasting damage. After the accident, Elena withdrew, focusing on Nina, and Jeremy turned to drugs. Despite having enough credits to graduate, Eliana stayed to support her family.

After the accident, Eliana began developing supernatural powers, including shapeshifting into a tiger. Elena secretly discovered and helped her train, while Nina adored her "kitty" form. Eliana also confided in Jeremy, who found her powers amazing and became even more protective of her.

Eliana started having recurring dreams of two men-one with dark hair, the other with blondish hair-whose faces were hidden by a scarlet hue. Though unclear, these dreams hinted at a connection she couldn't yet understand as her powers grew.All Rights Reserved
