Under the maple tree, they sat together, Oikawa cradled in Iwaizumi's embrace as they watched the sun dip below the horizon.
"Hubby, isn't this moment perfect?" Oikawa murmured, his voice barely audible. Suddenly, a wave of pain overwhelmed him, and he gasped, coughing up blood.
I hate this pain...I want this to be over...
"Tooru, you can rest," Iwaizumi said softly, rubbing his thumb against Oikawa's cheek. "If you rest, there's no more pain."
"No...more pain," Oikawa repeated, his voice fragile.
Iwaizumi nodded, his own heart breaking.
"Can I...Can I really rest?" Oikawa asked, his eyes searching Iwaizumi's for reassurance.
"Mm...," Iwaizumi affirmed, his voice choked with emotion.
"Are you...are you gonna be okay?" Oikawa's voice wavered, his concern for Iwaizumi evident even in his final moments.
Smiling with a heavy heart, Iwaizumi uttered, "Yes, I'm going to be okay. So, you don't have to fight and stay with me for another day. I know you're exhausted."
Then...I can really rest...This suffering will end...
Tears welled up in Oikawa's eyes as he gripped Iwaizumi's shirt with trembling hands. "Hubby, I love you! I-I love you very much!"
Iwaizumi gently embraced him, tears streaming down his own face. "Mm..., I love you, too," he whispered, stroking Oikawa's hair and kissing his forehead. He was on the verge of breaking down, trying desperately to keep a smile on his face. "You can sleep now."
Oikawa cupped Iwaizumi's cheek, looking into his emerald eyes. With unsteady breathing and a body that was slowly giving up, he said once more, "I love you...I love-love you, Iwaizumi Hajime..."
"I love you more, Tooru," Iwaizumi whispered. He then kissed Oikawa's bloody lips for the final time. As their lips parted, Oikawa's eyes grew heavy, and the world faded away.
When Oikawa's hand fell limp by his side, Iwaizumi knew he was gone. He gently caressed Oikawa's hair, staring at his peaceful face. "Sleep well, my darling," he whispered, his voice breaking.
Itachi was sitting at home before his desk, his arms folded and his head buried half-way into them as he stared with cool and almost soulless black eyes before the phone started buzzing, Hinata in bold on the phone as Itachi picked it up before it could ring a second more.
" Hinata..."
" I-Itachi..." The timid stammer made him know something was wrong as he stared to the desk, his heart slightly speeding up.
" Where are you? I haven't heard from you since this morning..." Itachi bit his lip.
" I-Itachi-k-kun... D-Did you threaten I-Ino's bo-boyfriend?" Her stammering was reaching a whole new level of nervousness that Itachi had not heard in years.
" He couldn't take his eyes off you... He had his girlfriend right there and everything, I didn't threaten him that badly." Itachi rose to defend himself.
" I-I-Ino said y-you..." She trailed off as it seemed to painful for his love to say it, but he knew Ino had told her everything, " Th-That's not what you s-said." She whispered to him through the phone, " I-I think we sh-should take a b-break." She whimpered then and his heart was hammering as he looked outside the window, red entering his vision.
" You're leaving me? What? Hinata... Please don't leave me, I'll die without you." Itachi whispered back, jolting out of his chair and starting to pace around like a caged panther, " You can't leave me, we love each other."
" I-I-I-" He heard crying. They were making her cry.
Soon her sniffles left the phone and Ino's voice entered his ears like a gnat, " Leave her alone you psychotic freak!" She then hung up as Itachi listened to the emptiness on the other side until finally a robotic dial tone sounded from being there too long as he pulled it back and let the phone drop from his hand, clattering to the floor and shattering it's screen as he turned and looked outside as if he could see them, Ino putting all these lies into Hinata and getting her to leave him, keeping them apart.
