Rumour has it that there is a monster lurking in the mountains of Klevar Heights. It doesn't show itself, but others claimed they had seen its enormous stature roaming around the lush forest at night. Some people say it kills, while others say it is helpful and grants their wishes for some reasons unknown.
These rumours piqued Coraline's curiosity. As much as people claim the monster kills, she relies on believing the opposite. Her determination grows for the sake of hope just because she has an impossible wish that even the gods refused to hear:
