Delaney's luck had run out. Three days prior, her mother kicked her out for robbing a store, something the girl felt she had to do to make ends meet. Now, with no one to turn to and nowhere to go, she finds a flyer for aiding the homeless and less fortunate with housing and food, 75% of participants leaving with a job offer. Her luck might have made a turn for the better, but she can't shake the feeling that this is opportunity is too good to be true.
Andrew Narcissus joined his father that night to help with interviewing potential candidates. As the second in line in one of the most influential Vampire families in the city, he wasn't just expected to take part in business, he thrived in it. Tonight, the prospects were to become Mannequins for the family, a personal blood source for a single Vampire, bound by an Elegy to be protected by their chosen, in exchange for sustenance. Andrew expected to leave alone, but circumstances quickly changed. Delaney's emotions were potent, making her a perfect source but jealousy ran rampant in the family; Is an Elegy enough to save the girl from everyone else? Or was her protector to be feared too?

Everyone has heard of the classic stereotypical vampire love store. Powerful figurehead vampire male becomes attracted to young human female. At first they aren't attracted but as time goes on, they begin to fall madly in love. Then there is the story of a male vampire who has done unspeakable evils as a vampire and is eternally brooding and even though he can't help what he is, he tries to be the good, kind hearted lover for his human female. Or better yet, the female finds out her lover is a vampire and begs and pleads to be turned to live eternally young and thus tries everything in her power to become a vampire but the male vampire refuses to turn her so that she does not live a cursed life. After a mysterious man begins to befriend her while working at her job, a night of sex turns into the start of everything she thought she could handle into a whirlwind of challenges. It's easy to kill a person in the movies or in a book because it's fiction. But actually suck the life out of a living being and it be her new reality, that's a whole different ballgame. Nadine Burns must now learn to face being a Newborn vampire in a world where there is no kindhearted feelings and sunshine and rainbows. To top it all, she was turned by one of the most powerful vampire leaders in her city and must also learn how to parade around in vampire politics.Complete
