Toughened glass, also known as tempered glass, is a type of safety glass that has increased strength and will usually shatter into small, square pieces when broken. It is used when strength, thermal resistance, and safety are important considerations.

The process to create toughened glass involves heating it to a high temperature and then rapidly cooling it. This process, known as tempering, puts the outer surfaces of the glass into compression and the interior into tension.
