The story follows John Abernathy, a 65-year-old man who just retired. He dreamed of spending his golden years in peace with his wife, Martha. They have two adult daughters. Jenny is married to David, and they have a lively nine-year-old son named Nathan. Susan, their other daughter, is single and adventurous.
But everything changes when a devastating virus sweeps the world. This virus turns many people into mindless, mutated zombies. The life they once knew crumbles around them, and John must confront a terrifying new reality.
