Sapphire Isonland is a fifteen year old girl turning sixteen. She lives in a dystopian town which is ruled by these people called the Anonymous Royals. All Sapphire cares about in this town is her little brother Eli, and her sapphire ring which she was named after by her mother who is now dead. Sapphire and her brother are orphans, because there mother is dead and their father disappeared over night. Sapphire's neighbor Mrs. Barnwell took care of Sapphire and Eli for a long time but she is now getting old and sick and Sapphire needs to earn money on her own. Sapphire tries to get a job, but ends up messing up big time. When she turns sixteen, she is forced to get married to the boy she hates, and is later rescued by these strange groups of people, who call their self The Defiance. Unfortunately, they didn't get her brother and Sapphire is determined to get him back. Sapphire and her new friends try to break into the force field surrounding the town and save her brother. Will they be able to do it?
