Have you ever actually thought about it? The moon IS always alone... So imagine how terrified she was when humans came to her. Then how terrified she was wen she was left alone again. Alone to face harmful beatings from the heavens. Over, and over again. Only short periods if time to rest.

She'll... Change... I look up at the moon, could she not have heard my howls? Of course she did. She always did. I can hear the other wolves in the forest. Soon I too would be engulfed by the beast.
