❝And what if I die?! Bellamy, I can't stop thinking that one day it's gonna be me. All my friends are dead and frankly I wish I was dead too.❞

Bellamy sighs, holding her hand. ❝Don't be like that.❞

When nuclear Armageddon destroys civilization on Earth, the only survivors are those on the 12 international space stations in orbit at the time. Three generations later, the 4,000 survivors living on a space ark of linked stations see their resources dwindle and face draconian measures established to ensure humanity's future. Desperately looking for a solution, the ark's leaders send 100 juvenile prisoners back to the planet to test its habitability. Having always lived in space, the exiles find the planet fascinating and terrifying, but with the fate of the human race in their hands, they must forge a path into the unknown.

THE REASONS || Bellamy Blake ~ the 100 by KylieRutledge17

BOOK I: The Reasons - the ground is unforgiving. So is survival. Madison Cameron was born in space, a child of the Ark, never feeling the sun on her skin or breathing the fresh, unfiltered air of Earth. She's never experienced the sensation of water, the way it would flow against her or lap around her as she swam. For three generations, humanity has clung to the Ark, floating in the cold vacuum of space, its fragile walls the only barrier between them and extinction. The Ark was all they knew-sterile, artificial, far from the dangers and beauty of Earth below. But now, the Ark is dying. It can't sustain them much longer. They are the last hope of mankind, a fragile chance for survival. The Earth they land on, however, is nothing like they imagined. It's not a fresh start or paradise - it's a nightmare. The air is toxic, wildlife monstrous, and every step is a battle for survival. The Earth is alive, but it's unforgiving. Amidst this chaos, Madison and Bellamy Blake find themselves at the forefront, taking on the roles of leaders. Both carry the heavy weight of responsibility, knowing that the survival of the remaining human race rests in their hands. They both strive to protect their people, to do whatever it takes to ensure their survival. But where Madison is focused on the harsh reality of survival-pragmatic, calculating, determined to keep them alive - Bellamy's vision is driven by something more abstract: freedom. They clash over their ideals - her need for structure, his thirst for freedom - and every time their paths cross, the tension between them makes their already perilous situation even more volatile. Yet, the Earth continues to test them. It doesn't care about their petty squabbles or their hopes for a better future. The planet doesn't care about Madison's desire for control or Bellamy's lust for freedom. It only cares about one thing: survival. Prisoner. That's all I'd been referred to as for the past seven years - I've almost forgotten my name. But I'm not a prisoner anymore. I've been given a second chance. A chance to start anew. On Earth. For three generations, the Ark has kept what's left of the human race alive, but now our home is dying, and we are the last hope of mankind. A hundred prisoners sent on a desperate mission to the ground. Each of us is here because we broke the law. On the ground, there is no law. All we have to do is survive, but we will be tested by the Earth, by the secrets it hides, and most of all by each other.
