For 5 years The Games have been going on.  Seven men torture seven women to their breaking point.  Dagon has to participate in these years Games even though he believes they are morally wrong.  

Carter is a badass, rebel who never let's anyone bring her down.  Dagon has chosen her because he thinks she will be hard to break, letting her stay strong, making her the best to win The Games of Lies.
