"We trudged along that path again. The sun glared down on us, as the trees became more scarce. Birch and Oak trees gave way to pines as we walked on. The flies buzzed around us, making us occasionally break the monotony by swatting them. We stopped about 2 miles on, in a clearing, for a rest... ...I pulled out the map, and we studied it. There was quite a bit of diversity ahead, as there were mountains, a small desert, and tons of forest. There were two major mountains which we would have to cross. In between them was a small desert, but after the mountains was a cooler, more wintery environment. However, near the Castle there was so much concrete. We looked at the other parts of the map, and observed that forests were rather rare, as most of the terrain was sand and concrete. I sighed, remembering how it was before the Fae... There were many more forests, but we still were expanding our 'concrete world'. Pollution was common, too common. Many would be sick and frail, and many still were. Our conquest of natural resources had left many scarred, and unable to fight back the Fae. Maybe that was why we were taken so easily. Our original excitement over having an adventure slowly ebbed away as we began to realize the long journey ahead... But we gritted our teeth and carried on our way. If things were normal, we would probably all be sitting at home, doing homework or something equally mundane and normal. We may never have met... But things weren't normal. This is something I had struggled with since the Fae attacks. I almost thought this was all a dream, merely a fabrication of my mind to avoid mundaness. The pain and the heat told otherwise... I was slowly coming to grips with my situation. I was one of the last of my kind." This is the first story in a series of christian fiction. It is set about 300 years from now, and it deals with many real-life situations, even though it is set in a fantasy future.

"Careful human." The...thing said in a concerned voice. "W-What are you, what d-do you want?" I shakily asked him, curling up my body protecting myself. "Shh human don't be afraid. You are my mate." What is a mate? Why did he bring me here? Who is he? Why is he looking at me like that? From the distance I put between us I could admire him more, and his tail. He really is beautiful. It was a deep teal green colour with gold and blue blended in with it that reminded me of his eyes. He was holding himself up with his arms looking at me curiously, head slightly bent to the side and all. "What are you, what do you want?" I asked slowly, my heartbeat had almost reduced to normal again but I was feeling a strange pull towards the creature in front of me. "I am a Merman and you are my mate." His voice was deep and sounded like music the way he spoke. But mate? "Mate?" I asked hoping to find out the way in which he directed this word. "My love," he paused looking into my hazel eyes. "Come closer human you are beautiful...and mine."
