"We trudged along that path again. The sun glared down on us, as the trees became more scarce. Birch and Oak trees gave way to pines as we walked on. The flies buzzed around us, making us occasionally break the monotony by swatting them. We stopped about 2 miles on, in a clearing, for a rest...

...I pulled out the map, and we studied it. There was quite a bit of diversity ahead, as there were mountains, a small desert, and tons of forest. There were two major mountains which we would have to cross. In between them was a small desert, but after the mountains was a cooler, more wintery environment. However, near the Castle there was so much concrete. We looked at the other parts of the map, and observed that forests were rather rare, as most of the terrain was sand and concrete. I sighed, remembering how it was before the Fae...

There were many more forests, but we still were expanding our 'concrete world'. Pollution was common, too common. Many would be sick and frail, and many still were. Our conquest of natural resources had left many scarred, and unable to fight back the Fae. Maybe that was why we were taken so easily.

Our original excitement over having an adventure slowly ebbed away as we began to realize the long journey ahead... But we gritted our teeth and carried on our way.

If things were normal, we would probably all be sitting at home, doing homework or something equally mundane and normal. We may never have met...

But things weren't normal. This is something I had struggled with since the Fae attacks. I almost thought this was all a dream, merely a fabrication of my mind to avoid mundaness. The pain and the heat told otherwise... I was slowly coming to grips with my situation.

I was one of the last of my kind."

This is the first story in a series of christian fiction. It is set about 300 years from now, and it deals with many real-life situations, even though it is set in a fantasy future.

Cassalyn Diao is used to making enemies of all kinds, but none have ever come close to truly hurting her. So when she stumbles upon a plot that could set her nation back by years, she runs to her old allies at the Arecian Secret Service for aid. Marcus Dalton has been looking for Cass since their last disastrous last encounter years ago, but he didn't expect their next meeting to begin with her passing out bleeding on his front doorsteps. But he'll take the chance to reconcile with her and try to put their past behind them. It won't be easy, though, with their cunning enemy seeking ways to silence Cass and her own refusal to let anyone in again. The two will have to work together against the ticking clock to survive this game of cat-and-mouse and come out with both their hearts and heads intact.
