Scarlatta Francomagaro is seen as a disgrace by her parents, who have decided she must endure a terrible fate to hide her shameful deeds from society and atone for her sins. Fleeing her parents' violence, Scarlatta takes refuge on the outskirts of the city, hiding in an old, crumbling shed belonging to an elderly couple. Within those four moldy walls, she will live for several years, imagining a better world-a world where there is no pain, and where people with kind hearts are the ones who triumph in the end.
