"Nothing else looked quite so wrong as these creatures. They bristled with energy, a pulse, a desire for flesh of its own kind, the only driving force in its entirely otherwise empty vessel. They were so, so alive, but devoid of anything that made them so. No kindness, no heart, none of that grand old word - human. And yet only the eyes were dead. 'Shark eyes' Harley had once called them and Will was reminded of that speech in Jaws, remembering the hair-raising chill he had gotten the first time he had heard it. Shark eyes was such a perfect way to describe them. They bore their way into your soul, worming in so deep that to ever be rid of them would take little less than clawing your own eyes out."
Seven years ago, the world experienced its first major zombie out break, leading to some cities being sealed off to protect the future. So when Will and the rest of the passengers aboard flight 127, crash land in one of these areas, they are frankly terrified. Plane crash, zombies, and basic survival seem hard enough but when they run into those they left behind?

Antique store owner Liz brings home a Victorian taxidermy hound from auction, unwittingly unleashing dark forces on her wife and son.
*****
Nat Loman has finally married the love of her life, Liz, and is getting used to her role as stepmother to Liz's 5-year-old son, Liam. The Loman family runs a bustling antique business so they attend a sale where a striking, black taxidermied hound is up for auction. Liz picks it up for the business, but it ends up being stored in their home, where Nat notices strange things occurring. She quickly discovers the past residents had died violently. Then she hears from a friend about the myth of "the devil's dog", a hound that perches in the shadows, tearing families apart from the inside. Soon, people around the Lomans are dying, and Liz is changing, darkening. It's up to Nat to save the woman she loves from the darkness closing in, and to save Liam from danger no matter what she has to sacrifice.
