Once upon a time there were four clans, BlossomClan, RippleClan, VastClan, and SunderClan. But then there were three when SunderClan began to lose their connection with StarClan, and they were exiled to live in the Twoleg city.

Sockpaw lives in a shadow in a shadow, with her incredibly talented brother Coatpaw, who has the best fighting and hunting skills out of every apprentice, and Heartstar, her mom and the leader of SunderClan. She starts a diary to recount her feelings and thoughts, and she and her friends uncover some weird things about the past.
