Meet me - Vanessa Thomas - the definition of a nerd. Quiet, shy, a bookworm, I've got all the 'geeky' traits. And then there's Jake. Jake James - the definition of perfect. Handsome with his chocolate hair and entrancing weapons known as his eyes. Not to mention popular and captain of the football team. But sadly with a hot guy, there's a stalker - this stalker being Heidi. She stands at the top of the social hierarchy. Heidi is the dictionary denotation of what you would call a 'Queen Bee'. A person who latches and grows from the attention of others. The school 'Queen Bee' Heidi fawns over Jake, as if he's hers - yet she gains no attention. And for the essential growth that Heidi needs for optimum popularity, she'll do anything. And I mean absolutely anything... ___________________________________________________ "Vanessa. Hear me out right now. Please," he begs. "I'm not interested." I go back to my book. He grabs my arm, gaining my attention. "Just a second," he says. "Tell Heidi. I'm sure she's interested," I sigh. "Can you at LEAST LISTEN!" He yells, shocking me in my seat. Belittled by his sudden outburst, I finally give in. "Fine. What is it?" I suspire. He begins awkwardly scratching the back of his neck. "Wow. You shouted at me to listen to you and then you can't even tell me." I pause to check if he's going to say anything. "Heidi is literally down there... just ta-" "-I like YOU. Okay!" He interrupts, exhaling deeply. "Why can't you stop being in my mind honestly!" He says, running a hand through his hair. "... erm. What did you say?" I hesitate slightly. "I. Like. You." He clarifies, his gaze melting me. He likes me? Jake James - heir to the Montez industries likes me? Me, Vanessa Thomas. Free-spirited homebody Erica doesn't want to be queen. Which is fine, because her single, independent older sister Gemma is more than ready for the job. But their father doesn't care about any of that. He thinks a queen ought to be married and producing heirs (Yes, he really says producing heirs) if she is to take the throne. No matter how hard the girls try to convince him, the king will not budge. Gemma needs to get married at her upcoming birthday ball or he passes her over in favour of her sister being the next queen. Desperate to turn their circumstances back right-side-up, the two concoct a plan to find someone for Gemma to choose who will definitely not choose her back. But in order to do that, Erica is going to have to work together with her longtime crush. Who doesn't know she exists. She'll have to keep her feelings in check if she's going to convince him to help, but she might want to offer him a little something in return. ~ * ~ * ~ This is one of the five novellas I'll be writing for this year's ONC!
