Sodomgorod

Sodomgorod is a paradox in the last days of the Soviet Union: an urban paradise for some, a haven for corrupt people for others. The people of Sodomgorod, split into three different factions, struggle with the uncertain future as the USSR collapses. The Bogomolcy are deeply devout nationalists who denounce all forms of opposition and extol the virtues of traditional values. The newly rich elite, known as Novye Russkie (New Russians), seize power with a vicious craving for luxury and dominance. The poor working class, known as the Bednyye, are abandoned and forgotten, left to fend for themselves in the interim.

In the middle of all of this turmoil, Idris and Ilya, two mysterious strangers, enter the city and provide sobering lessons about the perils of unbridled greed and bigotry. Growing reports of an imminent nuclear accident at a local power station, which the Federation is frantically attempting to contain, coincide with their arrival. Lot, a disillusioned former Soviet engineer and formerly-closeted gay man, joins forces with the two guests in an odd partnership and starts to regard them as the last hope to save the city.

With the backdrop of a disintegrating Soviet state and a globe on the verge of a new, uncertain order, "Sodomgorod" tells a compelling story of resistance, survival, and the fallout from unbridled power.
