In 1980s Jamaica, fear grips a rural community as butchers mysteriously disappear, their last known moments marked by the eerie sound of dragging chains. The elders warn of the Rolling Calf-an unstoppable, malevolent spirit tied to the souls of butchers. Some say that the Rolling Calf emerges only after a murdered butcher has been buried, their body wrapped in chains before burial, while others claim that any butcher, regardless of how they die, becomes a Rolling Calf as punishment for slaughtering so many animals. Young girls Gabrielle's mother, Roy's mother, and Rojay's mother witness the terror firsthand. Through whispered warnings and street meetings, the community learns not to fight the Rolling Calf, but to survive it-never answer when an unseen voice calls your name, never walk alone at night, always carry salt or iron for protection, and if you hear chains dragging, walk the other way.
Decades later, in 2024, the past is largely forgotten. The new generation sees the old beliefs as myths, and few remember the warnings. When butchers start disappearing again, Gabrielle, Roy, and Malik begin uncovering the truth. As they dig deeper, elders offer cryptic warnings, old newspaper clippings resurface, and the sound of chains returns to haunt the streets.
With fear spreading and the Rolling Calf growing bolder, the community must remember the lessons of the past before it's too late. Because one truth remains unchanged-you don't defeat the Rolling Calf. You survive it.
A family lost and a son alone. A boy's life at its end and beginning. An adventure filled with fantastical terrors, where a child becomes a monster, and a monster becomes a legend.
