Only, one problem: Deadline is having none of it. A premiere mercenary in the city's intergang power struggles, the only thing he can't terminate is Maris's employment. The standoff begins. As fights with spell-slinging gangsters, gwerewolves, and interdimensional hell beasts break out, Deadline aims to break the spirit countless rejections couldn't crush. Will he drive Maris out? Will Maris outlast Deadline? Or will time spent together show that Maris's dream of working with heroes might be closer than she thinks?
