In September 1963, Voltaire High, previously an all-boys school, becomes coeducational and welcomes girls for the first time. It is there that Aimée, a quiet student with striking red hair, meets Joseph, a troublemaker whose unpredictable behavior both fascinates and exasperates her.
He isn't sure what annoys him most about her. Maybe it's her fiery hair, her radiant smile, or the way she attracts attention without even trying. He despises her perfect teeth and skinny wrists, her passion for reading that makes her so different from the others, and especially the way she eats slowly in the cafeteria before retreating to the restroom. The more he thinks about it, everything about her repulses him, yet he is also intrigued by what he doesn't understand.
On her side, she can't stand the smell of cigarettes that clings to him whenever he walks into class, nor his obnoxious attitude. She hates the way he looks at her, how he always seems to get what he wants, and, most of all, his smug little smile that drives her mad.
But beneath this animosity, Aimée is hiding her own struggles, desperately trying to meet expectations while battling her eating disorders. Through their confrontations, Joseph, in some way, helps her feel more at ease in her own body.
They will learn that sometimes, you have to walk through darkness to embrace the light.
His rough hands pushed me firmly against the wall. He placed his hands on either sides of my head, I was cornered with nowhere to go. He pressed his big muscular body up against my tiny one. His hot minty breath fanned my face and my breath hitched. He leaned forward but stopped when our lips brushed. The urge to kiss him was too big but I have to constrain myself. He is a teacher for crying out loud. "You didn't do your homework," he sarcastically whispered against my lips. "I..I well." I stuttered not being able to make full sentences. "Do I make you nervous?" Mr. Matthews asked whilst pushing his body even closer to mine, which I didn't think was possible but apparently it was. I was now squeezed in between the wall and him. I gulped. "no, I just forgot. Besides I'm not the only one" I stated matter-of-factly. He grinned "I know, but I wanted to keep you behind. Want to know why?" he asked. I slowly nodded my head in a 'yes'. I felt him smirk against my lips. He pulled away slightly making my lips itch to touch his again. "Because you drive me crazy, I can't stop thinking about you" he murmured whilst placing tiny pecks from my cheek to my jawline. Each kiss leaving a tingly and hot sensation behind...
