Peeta didn't lie in the interview, well he did but little did he know that Katniss was actually pregnant. She was going into the games 5 months pregnant. Snow knew she was pregnant though, he gave her a test right before the games. Therefore he sees her value and instead of Peeta he takes her to the Capitol. Leaving Peeta with the rebels.

Our Love Will Remain - The story after Mockingjay
This story begins two years after the war and rebellion is over, and it is simply a story about Katniss' and Peeta's life together. In many other stories I've read, the Hunger Games return and continue to slaughter twenty-three children every year. That has not happened and is not going to happen in my story. This story is for Everlark shippers, so Katniss is not going to run off with Gale or something. Katniss is very happy with Peeta. They have everything by having each other, but they aren't married. Yet. When will Peeta ask? How will she react when she suddenly gets an unexpected visit by Gale, who has ignored her for two years? Read and get the answers to these questions.Complete
What If
My heart beat heavily against my chest as I stared down at the test. Tests can be false, right? Especially unofficial ones bought in District Twelve. But if the test is true, I would be going into the Hunger Games Pregnant. - What if Katniss was pregnant in the Quarter Quell and didn't tell anyone, even Peeta? What if Peeta told the lie anyways, not knowing that Katniss actually was actually pregnant? What if Peeta went through the hijacking and forgot Katniss was pregnant? If Fire Caught
What if Katniss had fallen in love with Peeta? What if the night the Quell was Announced, Katniss ran to Peeta's house after talking to Haymitch instead of her own? What if the events that night left Katniss pregnant and awaiting a fate that could end in a birth in the arena? Those are the what if's I've always asked myself while reading the hunger games series. I think it's time those questions were answered. Katniss Everdeen has found herself in a situation that is a danger to her and the ones she loves. Ever since she pulled out those berries, President Snow has been a looming threat. When the Quarter Quell announces that she will be forced to repeat the Hunger Games again, she finds comfort in the arms of her star crossed lover, the boy she's turned away from, the boy she's grown to love. But when she finds herself pregnant, Katniss can only wonder how she can get both Peeta and their child out alive, Even if it means her own life.Complete
