Living in the Shadows

Tatum Ruth is a 15 year old freshman in high school. She has had a crazy past and it's only getting crazier. She's been trying to figure herself out, but has been having some trouble along the way. She has a secret that most people don't know about, only her mom knows what it is. Her mom tries to ignore it, but what happens when Tatum's secret gets out? It's not something that's normal...and people don't react very well.

Aspen Jones is an 18 year old senior. She goes to the same school as Tatum, even though they don't know each other. Aspen is never home, due to a drunken mother and no father. She hates being at home, because her mother is abusive when she's drunk. She too has a secret... and no one knows. She cannot trust a soul. When she hears about Tatum, a little freshman, rumored to have this secret she tries to connect with her, even if it means her secret getting out.

They share a bond they neither of them have felt with anyone before. The more time they talk and spend together, the stronger the connection grows. Now, Tatum feels as if she is catching feelings to Aspen; Aspen has feelings for Tatum but keeps them to herself. She doesn't want to ruin their friendship with her feelings and neither does Tatum, because they don't think the other person would feel the same.
