A lot of Caden's later years were spent with the absence of his father, a man whom he had always wanted to feel by his side. He longed for his father, to feel safe in his arms when he's in peril. The man was always abroad, working. Caden had considered him long gone, knowing that he would only go home for Christmas, even missing a lot of his birthdays. The only thing Caden would recall is how his hair turns whiter and whiter every December. His mother could only fill that void so much, but the caress of a man could never, ever be fulfilled by his mother alone. Upon being transferred to the top class of the batch, it was only until Caden met Oliver that he felt how deep the void really was. He was the first man he felt safe with, the first man he wanted to always be by his side. Caden realized that Oliver had filled the space in his heart that his father has always left in him. Caden's world-view changes, and in a few moments, the word "best friend" comes to a blur. The word "love" came with a different wind. It wasn't about being around for each other anymore. Caden navigates this feeling, in fear that it would change everything forever. (Some events are inspired by the author's real-life experiences)
