Tanjiro was once an ordinary teenage boy who lived a quiet life on a mountain. He lived a fulfilling life and supported his family through selling charcoal. The boy tried to stand up to its power, but stood absolutely no chance. He would have suffered the same cruel fate as his family had he not been saved from the monster by a mysterious swordsman and his newly demonic sister. Now Tanjiro sets himself on a quest to become a Demon Slayer in order to restore the girl's humanity. Over the course of his journey he suffers constant hardship, intolerance, failure, defeat, and loss. However along the way he gains a new purpose in life and meets people who matter to him. Especially a quiet girl with a butterfly hair pin. The boy also gets involved with the politics of the world and learns the history of a lost empire that holds the keys towards destroying the demon king once and for all.
