Sa mundo ng Zorah, isang ulilang binata, si Kailan Moroz, ay nakatanggap ng alok mula sa isang misteryosong boses sa dilim. Habang tinutuklasan ang kanyang nakakabinging marka, nakatagpo siya ng matapang na mangangaso ng halimaw, si Nyra Vel'Daern. Sa likod ng kanilang pakikipagsapalaran ay isang pintuan patungo sa mga anino at mga lihim na maaaring baguhin ang kanilang kapalaran. Magiging tagapagsalita ba siya ng dilim o matutunan niyang ipaglaban ang liwanag? Sa bawat hakbang, ang takot at pag-asa ay nagtutunggali, at ang katotohanan ay laging nagkukubli sa kadiliman.
