After being unilaterally declared out of the marriage by her fiancé, Arabella De Vere becomes the topic of gossip throughout Northvale.

The college expelled her, and her uncle is so ashamed of her that he's likely to let her simply die of sickness.

With a high fever, she jumps out of a window on a snowy night to escape and meets Theodore, the man known as the smiling demon, on the way. Almost at the end of her rope, Arabella trembled and asked, "Could you marry me?"

Theodore Romanov extended his hand, pulling her out of the mess. That was his answer.
