The rise of the sorcerer

Mary was running again. She could feel the heat of the surroundings that were burning down, and with each step she could see that she was just out of reach of the hands that tried to grab her feet. If she slowed down or lost her footing, then they would have her. Fear gripped her heart with every step. She didn't dare to look behind her in order to see what was coming.
And then it happened.
Mary tripped and fell. She screamed as unseen hands grabbed her legs and began to pull her down, and as she looked up through blurred vision that was caused by heat and sweat, she glimpsed someone walking towards her. And with one final scream, Mary woke up.
