At the pinnacle of the the Battle for Earth, Commander Jonathan Shepard did not pick any of the three choices that the Catalyst gave him. He chose a different route. A route that the Reapers surprisingly followed. The Reapers suddenly leave, vanishing back into dark space with Shepard along with them. Follow the story of Shepard as he deals with the mental drama of the war and his return to the galaxy when the universe needs him most.
A new enemy lurks in the shadows and the only light that the universe has is MIA. It's time for Shepard and his new army to rise and protect the Galaxy once again.

Meanwhile, Collectors abduct human colonists in the Terminus Systems and no one seems to care. For Thane, death was his ten years of battle sleep driven only by his thirst for vengeance, while for Shepard, the two years unconscious while strangers did and undid with her body without her consent.
