Following the reversal of the Decimation and the restoration of all sentient life on the planet Earth, the lycanthropic anti-heroine and core Paragon Carla Rosenblood a.k.a. Nightclaw continues her duties as the protector of the town of Darkveil within Romania, defending it against those would do harm wherever she happens to be. She's also continued to be part of the movement of vigilante werewolves known as the Order of Blood-and is even in a loving relationship with fellow Order werewolf Jet-as well as a close friend of the werewolf Percy and the occasional guardian of the werewolf cub Boris II. Additionally, the two caretakers of her home, Darkveil Manor-Countess Valeria and the wizened scientist Esther-tend to every need and look after her during the day.

But after a particularly harrowing mission involving the apprehension of multiple traffickers infamous for their ruthlessness in kidnapping, abduction, ransoms, and violence, Carla-already an anti-hero to begin with-soon finds herself tapping into her dark side more than usual, and even she may not be able to control her urge to kill for much longer. Soon, it becomes clear that no one is safe.

Eventually, her activities get the attention of her idol, Hailey a.k.a. The Viper, who is determined to bring Carla back to the light, but is also prepared to do anything she has to in order to protect the populace at large.....
