Maya is a 17 year old and the child of Greg Ansari, a Sergeant Major in the Marines, and Sali Ansari, a stay at home mom. Maya has moved seven times in her life for her father's deployments and she just moved for the 8th time to Kailua, Hawaii. She's anxious to surf again but when she does she will meet Michael, who believes he's the best surfer the island has. In getting to know Michael, she will stray farther from Jacob and unknowingly anger the man who's always watching.
