Dokja Kim is an unregistered Guide. He has hidden for years and never plans to let an esper control his life. Joonghyuk Yoo is an esper who can't find a guide that can handle his overwhelming energy. Unfortunately for him, once he finds his perfect guide, the guide runs away. Will Dokja be able to escape, or will Joonghyuk finally have his perfect guide?

This story is set in the guideverse AU, a universe in which gates and dungeons filled with monsters appear. The only people capable of fighting these monsters are known as espers, they have supernatural abilities, the catch is that those powers can become unstable and consume them, making the espers go on a rampage before eventually dying. The only people capable of stoping the espers from rampaging are the guides, people capable of soothing said espers with physical touch.

Warning, there may be trigger warnings in this story such as non-consent, mentions of past suicide attempt, and blood. (This isn't a super depressing story I promise)

You do not need to have read ORV to understand this story, but there will be slight spoilers and references to Kim Dokja's backstory.

I do not own omniscient Reader's Viewpoint or its characters, the plot of this story is mine. But I would strongly encourage others to write more guideverse fanfics because I love it and it's very rare to find.

In a world where Gates suddenly appeared, Espers quickly became a nation's greatest asset. Among them stood Cha Jae-woo, one of South Korea's most renowned S-Rank Espers. The problem was that ever since his Awakening, no Guide with a high compatibility rate had ever been found for him. Thus, a mandatory nationwide Guide test was eventually enforced. "No way... I mean, I really hope it doesn't come to that, but..." "Ha..." "...Cha Jae-woo?" Thinking it would be better to get it over with quickly since he had to do it anyway, Haeyul underwent the Guide test-only to record an unprecedented 97.8% compatibility with Cha Jae-woo! "So what if I do? I'm just a D-Rank...!" The other party was an S-Rank Esper teetering on the verge of a rampage, having never once received proper Guiding. Meanwhile, Haeyul was a pathetic D-Rank Guide. Honestly, wouldn't it be better to create a new character and go fight a boss monster straight away than deal with this mess? Haeyul, feeling like he might get drained dry and die, was about to refuse, but then... "If a Guide still doesn't appear for Esper Cha Jae-woo, he will ultimately be executed." '...Are they insane or what?' Here he was, worrying about someone else when he might end up dead himself. But the thought that Cha Jae-woo would be killed if he didn't step up forced Haeyul, tears in his eyes, to sign the contract. "Uh... I think today's quota was already met this morning..." "That's it?" "That's my limit..." And so, with only a measly amount of mana to his name, Haeyul ends up living under the same roof as Cha Jae-woo, providing him with Guiding once a day.

After working diligently in the field, he was considered a promising candidate for the next team leader position in the Intelligence Command. However, during a mandatory health examination, he is identified as an S-class Guide. "Mr. Lee Eunseok, as you have awakened as a Guide during your health examination, you will be reassigned to the Bureau of Ability Management." "Who decided this?" "We are not here to ask for permission, but to inform you." Moreover, under the Guide Protection Act, Guides are not allowed to enter Gates. While Eunseok, who had been a field special agent, contemplates his desire to enter Gates, Choi Hanseo, an S-class Esper and guild master of White Tiger, approaches him. "Do you have the courage to enter Gates with me?" Eunseok begins his life as a Guide after contracting with Choi Hanseo on the condition of participating in Gate raids. However, he finds himself increasingly bothered by S-class Hunter Choi Hanseo's subtle yet obvious advances... "We seem to need more efficient guiding. For instance..." Choi Hanseo trails off, raising his free hand to meaningfully brush his thumb across Eunseok's lower lip
