Newt felt a sense of trust but the more he paid attention, the more he realized it would never end well for him. He had the Flare and he knew there was no way anyone would find a cure before he went insane.

Since it's a small town, they end up going to the same school. And that, Newt's regular customer Thomas was the one he fell in love with.
