Kurai was born in a small, rundown neighborhood on the outskirts of a major city. His parents, once hopeful young heroes, had their dreams shattered after an incident in which both were severely injured during a high-profile mission. His father, a former pro-hero, turned to alcohol to numb the pain, and his mother, consumed by guilt and bitterness, retreated into her own world of isolation.

From a young age, Kurai's life was marked by neglect and abuse. His quirk manifested when he was just five years old-an outburst of uncontrolled acid that burned a hole in the family's kitchen table during one of his father's rages.
