✧ This is the updated canon for The Quimby Hotel, in novel form.
It's 1964, and with segregation ending, tensions between humans and mages are at an all-time high. Cairo Quimby, a twenty-something half-mag' nobody who turns in dead criminals for a living, wants nothing more than to leave the past behind, but when the Inusit Court sends officers to beat him bloody for something his stepfather's done, he has little choice but to go back home to the floundering hotel his parents run and get to the bottom of what's going on. His father is hiding something, and whether he likes it or not, the Court have decided Cairo is involved.
Unfortunately, home means siblings that hate him, new siblings he's never met, dealing with his stubborn, bullheaded father, and time running out as hotel guests begin turning up dead one by one. Cairo has no choice but to pick up his magic again, enlist the help of a sister he loathes, and figure out what's really behind this vendetta against the Quimbys ⸻ even if it means confronting the reason he left in the first place.
The clock is ticking, and there are sins to atone for, blood to be spilled.
When George falls out with his parents, he doesn't plan to celebrate Christmas - after all, Christmas is a time you spend with family, right? Sapnap and Dream bet $100 on who could give George the best present and before he knows it Dream is on a plane to London.
