Darkness.
In the end, that's all she's left with.
Her parents hate her, and her sister doesn't even know of her. Her sister, Beth, is the perfect daughter. The one her parents wanted from the start. Skylar is ugly, and unwanted, forced to live alone in a home just outside of the city. She's been there since as long as she could fend for herself.
Darkness. That's what Skylar is accustomed to. She eats in the dark, dresses in the dark, showers in the dark, only leaves her home in the dark, it only seemed practical to protect in the dark. Fight in the dark.
