Part jazz club, part speakeasy: This pocket of space and time is surrounded by peculiar characters and rumors. It's rumored that a grim reaper owns the bar after tearing down the previous building for its "asymmetry". The catty Blair Witch is rumored to make the strongest drinks under the moon. And a runaway with a mysterious past plays the most enchanting piano during the evenings.
Detective Maka Albarn reluctantly takes the case of a woman's murder in a neighboring city. It's prohibition in Death City and conflict simmers beneath the surface. After hitting a wall, a preaching "shadow-in-the-night" leads her to the underground bar, "The Black Room".
Set in a world without Meisters or Weapons, magic-less yet still-bizarre Death City meets 1920s prohibition. With everything working against Maka, she and a few new companions jump down into the rabbit hole of madness, ambiguity, and humanity.
