It was hard to watch the small and happy family around him at times, and it made Cas sick with nostalgia at others, but he understood. He was happy. Cas was content and was living all the benefits of what should be his great happily ever after - forever. Things were good.

Castiel tried a lot to enjoy his new life with Dean by his side, but his past still haunted him. He tried to ignore it and set countless limits and rules for himself in a desperate attempt to hold onto the principles he used to have, but none of them worked. Unfinished business clawed at him and bubbled up slowly and steadily. No matter how much Cas pretended everything was fine, he felt like a very deadly ticking bomb, and there was nothing he could do to stop it.
