Naomi is entering her senior year at Shintsuyo High. She can't help but feel that her youth is slipping away, with no friends, no accomplishments, and the fear and anxiety of college. Hoping to find some companionship, she joins the Literature Club out of loneliness and desperation.

After Naomi declines to read the book she offers, she refuses to let Naomi join. Naomi is able to force Karen's hand by involving her friend and school president, Masamune. However, Karen is upset and resentful, deciding to give Naomi the cold shoulder and refusing to interact with her. Nevertheless, day by day, Karen lets information slip, and the two begin to learn more about each other. Karen's coldness towards Naomi not only begins to soften, but she begins to develop romantic feelings for her classmate and admires her deeply, impressed by her clubmate's kind, forgiving, and gentle nature as she comforts Karen through her emotional highs and lows. However, Karen's pride and arrogance make it difficult for her to admit her feelings, both to Naomi and to herself.
