Madman's Assistant

In a dark and hulking mansion in Victorian London, England lives a girl named Avaline Baines. Her life and passion is devoted to her work--assistant to the mysterious and brilliant young Doctor Peregrine Tolworth. Some say the doctor is eccentric, some say he's troubled, and most say he's mad. Avaline, however, believes there's much more to him. When the doctor is suspected of a mysterious and gruesome murder, Avaline takes it into her hands to prove her employer is not guilty. In her search for the truth, however, will she find proof of the doctor's innocence--or proof of the madness in him that she has always denied?
