Christmas and the festive season held no appeal for Daniel Mahone. To him, it was just another day. He couldn't fathom the joy or amusement in celebrating it, unlike his family who adorned their yard with bold Christmas lights stretching to the porch and the entire house. The sight of it all seemed more like a burden than a celebration.
The last time Daniel celebrated Christmas was in 2018. That year, he got excessively drunk, and a man mistook him for a woman, embracing him from behind. Daniel composed himself before anything could escalate, and since then, he had refrained from celebrating. Along the way, he felt an overwhelming urge from God to care for others, to feel their emotions, and to be acutely aware of his surroundings. Living a long, lonely life, being gay, an introvert, feeling others' emotions, and being self-aware, was not easy.
