Melanie Trint is an escort for an organization called the SMB, or the States Military Branch. Their neighboring civilizations, the Federation and the Union, are at war for one another's land. The States know that they will soon be brought into this war, so they are planning. As a guard, Melanie is forced to stand at her post all day. She hopes for nothing more than a bump, which is what a promotion is called, to a higher role, where she can participate and plan. Melanie gets her wish granted, on her first mission she meets a Union soldier, Jameson Gray, who helps her learn things she never believed could be true. Once she learns of the States true plans, she wishes she was a guard again.
