I LOOKED OUT THROUGH THE CRACKS of the crawl space. Goeth was coming closer, all shining black leather boots and crisp black uniform. One of his dogs lifted it's ears and looked right at me. I pulled back, away from the wall. "We're trapped. We have to get out of here." I was almost choking on my own fear. "And go where?" Thomas hissed. "If we leave, they'll find us in the barrack!" "I don't care. I can't be caught here." I pushed my way up and out of the crawl space. I gasped, filling my lungs. I had to move quickly. My heart was thumping, but it made me feel alive, and feeling alive made me want to stay alive.

I wasn't rejected. I erased myself. In the Highmoon Dominion, an Alpha is forbidden from bonding a human. Kael Thornhart broke that law for me... ...and then broke me for the sake of a pure-blood heir. He gave another woman my place. He handed her my mother's bracelet. He let them drag me across cold stone and call me unworthy. And when their child cried, he looked me in the eyes and asked how I could hurt "his pup." So I made my choice. I walked away-not as the rejected mate... but as the erased one. No scent trail. No grieving howl. No bond left to chase me. The pack believes I'm dead. Kael pretends I never mattered. And somewhere far beyond their borders, in a forgotten outpost meant to be my exile... a lone, exiled soldier watches me like a silent wolf in the dark and vows just one thing: "I won't fail you like he did."
