Mitochondria, a quiet subject at Murkoff Hospital, is assigned to care for a 17-year-old girl named Alicia as part of a strict program. Along with fellow subjects Ave, Zz, Sera, and Lyn, Mitochondria wears an orange jumpsuit and a tamper-proof tracking device. The hospital promises a badge as a reward for successful completion, but failure has consequences. Sent to Alicia's apartment, Mitochondria finds herself uneasy with Alicia's flirtatious behavior, yet she must endure the discomfort to avoid punishment. Under constant surveillance, she struggles with the psychological toll of control and compliance while yearning for a sense of autonomy.
