adderkit is a young kit, living a normal clan life. one day, the medicine cat, rapidflow, is told a prophecy from starclan, "When the ice first cracks and earth breathes deep, adder's blood will rise where the shadows creep. Through the frost and sickness, the clan shall fall, but one kit's courage will rise above all." the medicine cat, rapidflow, tells the leader, morningstar, about adderkit and how her name was brought up in a prophecy. they don't tell anyone, keeping it to themselves. adderkit grows up to live a normal clan life. but one day, rapidflow, the med, falls very ill with redcough, and doesn't make it. that leaves morningstar in charge of telling adderkit about the prophecy, adderkit doesn't know how to take this news, and she shrugs it off. Morningstar then loses her last life in a fight, and the deputy, lostshade, becomes leader. he then has to assign a new deputy to windclan. he assigns addercrawl (adderkit) the role of deputy, which is the start of a new legacy for windclan.

Four generations after The Last Hope, we strike into two rivaling Clans: LightClan and OutClan. LightClan is of loyal, strong-willed warriors while OutClan is dis trustworthy and full of rogues. When Ashstar, LightClan's leader receives a prophecy speaking of a cat who will have the power to talk to any animal, she's at a loss for words. A litter of kits is born that very night, Wolfkit and Frostkit. Ashstar realizes Wolfkit is the prophesied cat and doesn't know how to react.
As Wolfkit struggles with her ability, Frostkit has trouble with OutClan, seeing she has been gifted with supreme hunting and fighting skills. Both the she-cats go through hardships and battle having the temptation of mates as young apprentices, one far worse than the other. But that is not their only problem, there is evil lurking inside their very Clan and they are the only ones who can stop it.
