"So, why did you come back to me?" My heart pounded in my throat, watching his eyes glimmer with their normal cruelty, contrasted by the sweetness in his smile. It was a sweetness I knew wasn't real, it wasn't possible for him to empathize or feel anything close to love. But damn him and his smile; I could feel it work it's way into my veins and set fire to them. I could feel my skin melt in my cheeks as the blood flared in them and my heart began to beat faster.
