Locked out of heaven and invisible to all but the souls he carries, the master of Death attempts to shed his immortality and become human, but risks the world's existence in the process. After several millennia of wandering the Earth, James Watson knows that in order to keep the world turning death must be controlled and he's the unlucky master. Though his future looks long and grim, James finds an unexpected ally in an angel who gives him three coveted days of life before he must reclaim his responsibilities as death. Still young in the human world, James is unexpectedly drawn into the company of a free-spirited photographer who shows him a life he has always wanted. As he delves deeper into her world, becoming increasingly captivated by the girl with the many secrets, he knows that there is no returning to the dead and he tries to escape the limit of his three days. But in his absence the powers of death have become accessible to the Devil who wants to free himself from the confines of Hell. James' wish to be human has set in motion the Devil's plans of a dark world order that endangers everyone he loves. Saving them means he must choose between remaining mortal and becoming death and the sacrifices that will come with each.
