in search of ourselves

I lived alone in a remote village and had no one to talk to, until one day I met him: Baskara. Baskara is a very attractive creature, in fact there are many people who love him, but for some unknown reason he chose me. Usually everyone treated me like I was different because I have vitiligo and I don't feel comfortable in my body. He always told me that there's nothing wrong with me and that if I want to be a woman, I will be one in every way. Being different is not easy, especially if you are born male but don't identify with it at all. The name I chose is Kabarà and he has always respected it, but that's not what I want to talk about. Unfortunately we live in a society where we are hunted by humans, who took away one of my eyes. I never believed in humans, in fact they made a bet that in order to free me they also wanted Baskara's eye in exchange and so it was. Baskara accepted without asking too many questions, even though I would have preferred he hadn't. Anyway, humans are cruel people, or at least, not all of them. Since we met Charlotte our life has changed. She's a girl who was left without parents and desperately asked for our help. We found her when she was 11 years old. They left her in our village for no particular reason. At first we were wary, but then we helped her and now we treat her like she's our own daughter. Charlotte has never had problems understanding me; we've learned that she, like all of us, just needs affection and to be understood as well.
